Stimulant Medication Policy

While stimulants are helpful for ADHD, their classification as controlled substances necessitates strict clinical evaluations and ongoing safety monitoring protocols for all patients.

An ADHD diagnosis does not guarantee a stimulant prescription. Our medical team determines treatment plans based on comprehensive health profiles and strict federal safety regulations.

Pre-Treatment Guidelines

Initiating or continuing stimulant therapy at our practice involves the following clinical steps:

    Comprehensive ADHD clinical review
External diagnostic records or verified testing
    Full medical and psychiatric history
    Baseline vital signs
    State prescription monitoring review
    Mandatory toxicology screening
EKG or medical clearance if clinically warranted

We may mandate specific external medical files to ensure your medication plan is secure.

Clinical Oversight

To maintain safety, patients on stimulants participate in monthly follow-up sessions to monitor symptom improvement, potential side effects, and strict adherence to the prescribed plan.

Ongoing monitoring includes prescription database checks, regular drug screenings, blood work, vital sign assessments, and EKGs as determined by your primary treating clinician.

Clinical variables such as age or specific medical histories may require more frequent in-person evaluations to uphold the highest psychiatric care and safety standards.

Regional Care Protocols

Texas: The Healed Mind Psychiatry operates as a virtual-only practice and does not offer in-person visits. In accordance with federal and state regulations, we do not prescribe or manage controlled substances (including stimulants like Adderall or Ritalin) via telehealth. Patients requiring these medications should seek a local provider capable of providing the necessary in-person assessments. Our Texas practice focuses on non-controlled medication management and therapeutic interventions delivered exclusively through secure video platforms.

Telehealth consultations are for non-controlled treatment only and do not facilitate the issuance or renewal of any schedule II-V controlled substance prescriptions.

New Mexico Care Provisions

New Mexico: Under our telehealth model, we do not prescribe controlled substances, including stimulants for ADHD. We offer comprehensive evaluations and management for non-controlled medical options and alternative therapeutic strategies for all residents.

All psychiatric services provided to patients in New Mexico are conducted entirely via telehealth, focusing on safe, non-controlled treatment regimens and evidence-based care.

Pharmacy Coordination

Approved non-controlled prescriptions are electronically sent to your preferred pharmacy location.

Filling is subject to pharmacy supply and insurance coverage. As we utilize third-party pharmacies, we cannot ensure immediate medication availability or specific stocking timelines.

Contact your pharmacist directly to discuss insurance processing, current stock, or specific pickup requirements for your non-controlled medications.

Renewals and Adjustments

Any changes to your medication dose or therapy renewals must be addressed during a scheduled clinical session with your provider.

You must never modify your dosage, share your prescriptions, or alter your treatment routine without a direct clinical instruction from your healthcare provider.

Requests for early renewals or medication changes are evaluated based on strict clinical safety protocols and regulatory standards to ensure patient wellbeing.

Our Commitment to You

We reserve the right to modify or discontinue treatment if we identify non-adherence, safety concerns, or other clinical indicators that may jeopardize your long-term health.

These protocols are designed to prioritize your physical Safety while supporting your mental health journey.
